Frequently Asked Questions

What is the process to scrap a car or bike in India?

You can approach authorized scrap yards or Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSFs) approved by the RTO for proper vehicle scrapping. They will handle documentation such as de-registration and provide necessary certificates. Avoid unregistered, roadside scrap car or bike dealers.

As per the scrapping policy in India, two-wheelers older than 15 years need to undergo a fitness test for renewal. If the vehicle is deemed unfit, it must be scrapped at an authorized facility.

Scrap car prices depend on the model, condition, and metal weight. On average, scrap cars may fetch between Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 1,50,000, while old scrap bikes can bring in between Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 8,000.

Authorized scrap yards follow ethical recycling practices. Hazardous fluids are drained before the dismantling process, and raw materials are recycled or disposed of in accordance with environmental regulations.

Local dealers may not provide proper documentation for de-registration. Vehicles sold to them could be misused, leading to potential legal issues. It is recommended to use RTO-registered scrap vendors.

Look for RVSF facilities approved for activities like vehicle recycling. Always ask for valid certification from scrap companies before availing their services.

Submit the original RC book, insurance papers, and other relevant vehicle documents for verification during the car scrapping process. These documents are required for de-registration.

When you scrap your vehicle at an RVSF, you will receive a Certificate of Deposit and a Certificate of Scrapping. These certificates make you eligible for concessions on the purchase of a new vehicle.

The certificates obtained from scrapping can help you save on taxes and registration charges when buying a new car. Additionally, some states offer incentives for scrapping old vehicles.

Opt for authorized facilities, as they have a better understanding of scrap value and metal rates. Their quotes are generally higher than those offered by local, unregistered scrap car buyers.
